Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Leaves Four Victims Wounded in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a shooting that took place late Saturday at the Howe Community Park area at the time officers were dissolving a large unauthorized gathering of a crowd of several hundred.

Before the Gunfire

Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office first arrived at Howe Park at approximately half past six in the evening after receiving reports of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Soon after, a second call came in about a possible physical fight occurring inside the park.

A sheriff's airship conducted an aerial sweep but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Even so, deputies found that several hundred individuals had packed into the park without official sanction.

The Moment Gunfire Erupted

Deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and announcing over their public address systems ordering the assembled crowd to leave immediately. Around 15 minutes were given for the gathering to break up.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 gunshots rang out. The shots caused mass panic. Responding personnel immediately began locating gunshot victims.

Four People Shot

In total, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The shooting victims — consisting of one woman and three men each apparently in their early to late twenties — were transported to Sacramento area hospitals. Doctors and nurses confirmed that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one of the four had moderate gunshot check here wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, all four were expected to survive.

Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and assisted with medical triage shooting victims before they were taken to the hospital.

The Investigation

The main crime scene seemed to have unfolded on the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot store on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Detectives located additional spent rounds scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were observed in the wrought iron perimeter fencing adjacent to the Home Depot store. These discoveries suggested that one of the gunmen had been aiming south from along Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was secured under a brief lockdown while the scene was active. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives continued working throughout the night.

Suspects Detained

Information obtained through scanner monitoring indicated that a Kia vehicle had been detained in Solano County. Four suspects were detained. Sacramento law enforcement were traveling to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for processing in Sacramento County. Video reviewed at the scene showed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
